South Carolina woman killed in car crash, coroner’s office says

A South Carolina woman was killed Sunday morning in a crash, according to the Greenwood County Coroner’s Office.

Tracy Denise Brooks, a 56-year-old Greenwood resident, is the pedestrian who died in the wreck, the coroner’s office said.

The collision happened at about 2 a.m. on Siloam Church Road, said Master Trooper Brandon Bolt of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Brooks was walking north on Siloam Church Road in a northbound lane, officials said. Near the intersection with McKellar Drive, Brooks was hit by a 2007 Saturn sedan that was driving north on Siloam Church Road, according to Bolt.

Brooks suffered blunt force trauma and died at the scene, the coroner’s office said. The crash happened about 2 miles from Brooks’ home, according to the coroner’s office.

Bolt said the driver — who was the only person in the car — was not hurt, and no other injuries were reported.

There was no word if the driver was wearing a seat belt.

No manner of death has been determined, and the collision continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office.

Through Feb. 16, at least 86 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least one person has died in a Greenwood County crash in 2025, according to DPS data. There were five deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
