Woman was robbed and killed during sale that was set up online, SC officials say

Two men have been arrested after a South Carolina woman was recently robbed and killed as she attempted to sell one of them items in a transaction that was set up online, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Anaya Q. Herndon, a 22-year-old Columbia resident, was the victim who died in a March 19 shooting at the Greenbrier Apartments, the Richland County Coroner’s Office said.

On Thursday, the sheriff’s department announced that 20-year-old Quavon Eichelberger and 20-year-old Zaire Warner were arrested in connection to Herndon’s death.

At about 2 p.m. March 19, deputies responded to a shooting at the apartment complex in the 300 block of Willow Oak Drive, the sheriff’s department said in a news release. That’s in Columbia, near Exit 73 on Interstate 20, which is the junction with S.C. 277.

Deputies found Herndon, who died at the scene after being shot in the upper body, according to the release.

Deputies gathered descriptions of two suspects, and both Eichelberger and Warner were taken into custody at the scene, the sheriff’s department said.

During an investigation, deputies learned that Herndon had made arrangements online to sell items to Eichelberger, according to the release. When Herndon met Eichelberger to make the sale, Eichelberger robbed and killed the victim, the sheriff’s department said.

Deputies determined that Warner had gone with Herndon for the sale and was not involved in the deadly shooting, according to the release.

But Warner was in possession of a gun, and he is prohibited from possessing firearms, and he was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, the sheriff’s department said.

Eichelberger was charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and armed robbery, according to the release.

Both Eichelberger and Warner were booked at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, the sheriff’s department said.

Bond was denied for Eichelberger, who remains locked up, jail records show. Richland County court records show Warner’s bond was set at $2,500, and he’s been released from the jail, according to the sheriff’s department.

After the arrests of Eichelberger and Warner, the case remained under investigation, but the sheriff’s department said it currently believes there are no additional suspects.
