Security guard arrested after shooting at bar in Columbia, SC sheriff says
Four weeks after a shooting at a South Carolina bar a security guard at the venue was arrested on multiple charges, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
Marcus Thomas, 33, was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, the sheriff’s department said Wednesday in a news release.
The charges stem from an April 2 shooting at My House bar at 7205 Two Notch Road, according to the release. That’s in Columbia, in the area between Parklane Road and Columbia Place Mall.
Deputies learned that Thomas and the victim targeted in the shooting knew each other from a previous altercation, the sheriff’s department said. Information about the past incident, and where it occurred, was not available.
Thomas and other security personnel denied the victim access to My House bar, according to the release. The victim began to leave when Thomas fired several shots in the victim’s direction, the sheriff’s department said.
Although the victim was not physically hurt, their vehicle was hit by gunfire, according to the release.
No injuries were reported.
The victim then went to the sheriff’s department headquarters to report the shooting, according to the release.
Thomas was arrested Monday and booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, the sheriff’s department said. Thomas has since been released on a $75,000 bond, according to the release.
