South Carolina man killed in early morning shooting, coroner says

A South Carolina man was killed early Wednesday morning in a shooting, according to the Sumter County Coroner’s Office. He was shot to death in his home, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office said.

Robert Dustin Burleson, 43-year-old Sumter County resident, is the man who died, Coroner Robbie Baker said in a news release.

The shooting happened at about 5 a.m., at 24 Dink Street, according to the release. That’s in Sumter, in the area between U.S. 15 and U.S. 521.

Burleson died at the scene from injuries he sustained from a gunshot wound, Baker said.

No other injuries were reported.

There was no word about a shooter or shooters, or anyone else involved in the gunfire. Information about a possible motive for the shooting was not available.

No arrests have been reported, but the shooting continues to be investigated by the sheriff’s office and coroner’s office. An autopsy is scheduled for next Monday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, Baker said.

Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis said investigators are actively following multiple leads and expressed confidence that the case will result in an arrest.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit a tip online.
