Teenager ejected from crashing vehicle is killed, South Carolina coroner says

A South Carolina teenager was killed Thursday when the vehicle he was driving crashed, according to the Kershaw County Coroner’s Office.

Daniel Singletary, an 18-year-old from the Elgin area, is the driver who died in what Coroner David West called an accident.

The single-vehicle collision happened at about 12:55 p.m., in Kershaw County, said Master Trooper William Bennett of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Singletary was driving a 2020 Polaris side-by-side vehicle east on Primrose Lane, according to Bennett. Near the intersection with Blaney Road the side-by-side ran off the right side of Primrose Lane, Bennett said.

Singletary, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the side-by-side as it rolled over and he died at the scene, according to West.

Bennett said that Singletary was the only person on the side-by-side, and no other injuries were reported.

Information about what caused the side-by-side to veer off the road was not available. Neither Bennett nor the coroner’s office said if the crash is under investigation.

Through May 4, at least 270 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least six people have died in Kershaw County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 10 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
