Woman’s body found inside South Carolina home, coroner says
A woman was killed overnight in South Carolina, according to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.
Cherie Hewitt, 53, is the woman who died, Coroner Darryl Ables said Monday in a news release.
At about 2:25 a.m., law enforcement officers responded to a report of a shooting at a home in the 100 block of Whaley Street, according to the release. That’s in the Warrenville area of Aiken County.
Hewitt was found unresponsive inside the home, the coroner’s office said.
By 2:30 a.m., the coroner’s office had been called to the home and said that Hewitt died from a single gunshot wound, according to the release.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word about a shooter or shooters, or anyone else involved in the gunfire. Information about a possible motive for the shooting was not available.
No arrests have been reported, but the shooting continues to be investigated by the coroner’s office and the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.
