Two people killed when UTV collides with tractor trailer, SC cops say

Two people were killed Tuesday in an early morning crash between a tractor trailer and a UTV, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The collision happened at about 3:10 a.m. in Darlington County, said Cpl. David Jones.

A Kawasaki UTV side-by-side was driving north on South Center Road, while a 2025 International tractor trailer was heading west on S.C. 34, according to Jones. At the intersection, which is 4 miles from Darlington Raceway, the Kawasaki hit the side of the tractor trailer, Jones said.

Both the driver and a passenger in the Kawasaki died, according to Jones.

The Darlington County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified those victims.

Jones said the tractor trailer driver was not hurt, and no other injuries were reported.

There was no word if anyone involved in the wreck was wearing seat belts or safety restraints, but the collision continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.

Through Sunday, 291 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least 17 people have died in Darlington County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 20 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
