Search over for missing 11-year-old boy, South Carolina sheriff says
The search is for a missing South Carolina boy is over.
Jaydence Johnson has been located safely, the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.
Information about when and where the 11-year-old was found was not available, but the sheriff’s office said it “will continue investigating this incident to ensure this child’s future safety.”
Jaydence was publicly reported missing by the sheriff’s office late Tuesday night.
A search for the 11-year-old was focused in the 3000 block of Hunter Road in Kershaw, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. That’s a rural part of the Midlands, in the area between U.S. 601 and U.S. 1.
The sheriff’s office initially thought that Jaydence was lost, but at 11:30 p.m. said it then believed the child was a runaway.
At school Tuesday, Jaydence told someone that “he planned to leave home and go to a friend’s house that can hide him,” the sheriff’s office said. “We do not know which friend.”
Deputies searching for Jaydence were joined by K-9 units and drone teams.
