Busy road in Columbia blocked after serious crash, South Carolina police say
Part of a busy road in South Carolina was closed following a Wednesday morning collision, according to the Columbia Police Department.
A serious collision during the morning commute caused delays for drivers as Main Street and Columbia College Drive were shut down, police said at about 7:22 a.m. That’s in the area between Monticello Road and Fairfield Road.
One person suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital, according to police. Further information on the victim’s condition was not available.
There was no word about what led to what police said was a two-vehicle collision.
Police said traffic safety officers are investigating the incident.
Traffic lights in the area were damaged in the wreck and both officers and cadets are directing traffic, according to police.
“Stay alert. Avoid distractions if you’re traveling in this area,” police said.
