Woman killed after argument between family members, Richland County sheriff says
A woman was killed Saturday night in South Carolina and a man has been charged with murder, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
At about 7 p.m., deputies responded to a reported shooting in the 4300 block of Candlelite Drive, the sheriff’s department said in a news release. That’s in Columbia, in the area between Bluff Road and Shop Road, not far from Exit 5 on Interstate 77.
Deputies weren’t able to locate the suspected shooter but discovered a female victim in the grass next to a vehicle, according to the release. EMS took the victim to an area hospital where she later died from her injuries, the sheriff’s department said.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the victim.
The deputies learned that there had been an argument between family members and the suspected gunman, 37-year-old Dexter Fuller, who shot the victim then left, according to the release. Information about the argument was not available.
No other injuries were reported.
While deputies were still conducting their investigation, Fuller returned to the crime scene and was arrested, according to the release.
In addition to murder, Fuller was also charged with possession of weapon during a violent crime, the sheriff’s department said. Fuller was booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, and he remains behind bars after bond was denied, jail records show.
Fuller has been arrested more than a dozen times in the past 18 years, according to Richland County court records. That includes a 2020 arrest on a second-degree domestic violence charge that the Columbia resident pleaded guilty to in 2023, court records show.
