Search for who pulled the trigger after two people shot overnight, SC police say

Two people were injured early Monday morning in a shooting at a South Carolina apartment complex, according to the Columbia Police Department.

At about 2:30 a.m., officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert, followed by an emergency call about the shooting at 3430 Broad River Road, police said in a news release. That’s the Cypress Run Apartments, which is near the intersection with St. Andrews Road, not far from the junction with Interstate 20.

ShotSpotter is a technology that uses acoustic monitors to detect a sound like gunfire. The system sends the gunfire’s location to Columbia police within 45 seconds.

When they arrived, officers found two people who had been shot, according to the release.

The victims were hospitalized with what police called non-life-threatening injuries. Further information on their conditions was not available.

No other injuries were reported in what police called an “isolated shooting.”

There was no word about a shooter or shooters, or anyone else involved in the gunfire. Information about a possible motive for the shooting was not available.

No arrests have been reported, but the shooting continues to be investigated by police.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit a tip online.
