A North Carolina-based chain focuses on biscuits — and fans keep coming back.

Now, the restaurant again ranks as the nation’s No. 1 place to eat fast-food breakfast.

Biscuitville tops the list for the third straight year, but the honors for the breakfast chain didn’t end there. It also ranked No. 2 in a separate category of best regional fast-food restaurants, according to results published Wednesday, July 16.

To create the list of fan-favorite breakfast spots, USA Today’s 10Best said its “editors teamed up with a panel of experts to compile a list of their top choices for a fast, satisfying morning treat.” After the nominees were chosen, readers could spend one month voting for the places they loved the most.

Why fans love Biscuitville

On the resulting list of readers’ choice award winners, Biscuitville took the crown for fast-food breakfast. The chain serves Southern favorites from more than 85 locations in the Carolinas and Virginia, according to its website.

“Biscuitville’s fresh-baked biscuits can be enjoyed a number of ways, from simple bacon, egg, and cheese or fried chicken biscuits to more elaborate breakfast sandwiches like their Spicy Chicken & Honey Biscuit,” 10Best wrote in its report. “With breakfast platters and sides of grits, hash browns, or country gravy, plus indulgent sweet treats like their blueberry muffin, it’s no wonder folks return again and again.”

Biscuitville wasn’t the only North Carolina-based chain to make its mark. Bojangles, which is headquartered in Charlotte, ranked No. 8 among the top fast-food breakfast joints.

Here are the U.S. restaurants that made it into the top five:

  • Del Taco at No. 2
  • Jack in the Box at No. 3
  • McDonald’s at No. 4
  • Chick-fil-A at No. 5

When it came to the best regional fast-food restaurants, 10Best gave Biscuitville a nod for offering biscuits “baked fresh every 15 minutes.” The family-owned chain launched in 1966 and is now based in Greensboro, McClatchy News reported.

Across the country, 10Best said the top regional chain was Skyline Chili, which has roots in Ohio.

In the past, the website has told McClatchy News it doesn’t reveal the number of people who vote in its contests.
