Woman was driving when killed and boyfriend is charged with murder, SC cops say
A search for an “armed and dangerous” man ended Sunday in another state after a woman was killed days earlier in South Carolina, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said.
Jamie Allen, a 53-year-old Lee County resident, was taken into custody in Wake County, North Carolina, on arrest warrants out of South Carolina, including a murder charge, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
At about 9:45 p.m. Friday, deputies responded to a report of a shooting on Mikado Road, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. That’s in the Mayesville area of Lee County.
Deputies found a woman who had been shot and she died at the scene, according to the release.
Carol Wilson Baker, a 60-year-old Lee County resident, is the woman who died, the sheriff’s office said.
An investigation showed that Baker and Allen were in a relationship, according to the release. On Friday night Baker was driving on Mikado Road when she was shot by Allen, the sheriff’s office said.
Allen then carjacked another vehicle in the area and left, according to the release.
No other injuries were reported.
Information about a motive for the shooting was not available.
A search began Friday night for Allen, who the sheriff’s office said was believed to be armed and dangerous.
The vehicle that Allen carjacked was located in Cumberland County, North Carolina, on Saturday, a day before Allen was tracked down, according to the release.
Allen is currently being held in Wake County on murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and carjacking charges out of Lee County, the sheriff’s office said. Allen will undergo the extradition process and then will be taken back to Lee County, according to the release.
