Woman found bleeding from head & face and her attacker is wanted, SC cops say

A search is underway for a wanted man as a woman was recently found bleeding profusely after she was brutally beaten with a blunt object, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Kenneth Brown, 44, is wanted on an attempted murder charge, the sheriff’s department said Wednesday.

The charge stems from a June 10 assault at a home in the 400 block of Mellowood Drive, according to an incident report shared by the sheriff’s department. That’s in a part of Columbia between Bluff and Shop roads, about 4 miles from Williams-Brice Stadium.

At about 11:25 p.m. on June 10, deputies responded to a call about an assault, according to the release. Deputies found a woman lying on her stomach in a pool of blood in the driveway, the sheriff’s department said. The victim was bleeding heavily from the head and face after she had been hit several times, according to the incident report.

The victim was unable to speak with deputies as blood continued to run down her face, the sheriff’s department said. She was taken to an area hospital, according to an incident report. Information on her condition was not available.

A witness told deputies she saw Brown arguing with the victim before he picked up a wooden table leg from a trash pile and used it to hit the victim several times in the face and head, causing “great bodily injury,” the sheriff’s department said.

During a search, deputies found the blunt weapon across the street and it had reddish brown stains, consistent with blood, according to the sheriff’s department.

Information about why Brown and the victim were arguing and a motive for the attack were not available.

No other injuries were reported.

Anyone who has seen Brown, or has information about his location, is asked to call the sheriff’s department at 803-576-3000, CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.

In the case of an emergency, always call 911.
