With popular coastal destinations like Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina welcomes millions of visitors to its picturesque beaches every summer. But the Palmetto State also has its share of hidden gems.

For those looking to slow down and escape the crowds, Canada-based travel blog Frugal Flyer surveyed more than 3,000 locals to find the “best secret beaches” around the United States. From tropical paradise in Hawaii to land-locked lake beaches in Michigan, 95 spots made the list, including three in South Carolina.

Coming in at number 11, Harbor Island offers 3 miles of beaches. The small barrier island is only about 1,400 acres, but it’s full of tranquil tidal marshes, golf courses and southern island charm on the Atlantic.

South of Harbor Island just above the state line with Georgia, Daufuskie Island also made the list at number 15. The island is only accessible by boat, perfect for those looking to escape the beaten path.

The third and final South Carolina destination to make the list is Edisto Island at number 23. Located between Harbor Island and Kiawah Island along the Palmetto coast, Edisto is a great getaway for fans of the outdoors. With hiking trails, scenic fishing spots and serene beaches, Edisto offers unforgettable views.

Outside South Carolina, hidden gems across dozens of states made the ranking. Check out the top 25 secret beaches in America.
