30-year-old killed by deputy after shooting at ambulance, SC cops say
A 30-year-old man was recently killed following a confrontation with a law enforcement officer, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
The Florence County Coroner’s Office said Justin Lowery was the armed man who shot at an ambulance on Aug. 27 before he was fatally shot by a Florence County Sheriff’s Office deputy, SLED said in a news release.
Deputies got involved when they responded to a domestic violence call at a home on Anderson Field Road, according to the release. Deputies encountered an armed man, later identified as Lowery, SLED said.
Lowery fired a gun at the ambulance, then left the residence and walked to the intersection of Anderson Field Road and U.S. 52, according to the release. At that intersection the deputy shot Lowery, SLED said.
Lowery was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the release.
No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident, SLED said.
Information about what led to the deputy firing a weapon was not available.
There was no word on the condition of any domestic violence victims.
SLED is continuing to lead the investigation after being asked by the sheriff’s office.
