Driver killed when truck runs off I-95 and crashes into tree, SC cops say
One person was killed Saturday when a pickup truck ran off Interstate 95 and crashed, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The single-vehicle collision happened at about 5:30 p.m. in Clarendon County, said Master Trooper Brandon Bolt.
A 2006 Nissan pickup was driving north on I-95, according to Bolt. At the 114 mile marker, near the junction with U.S. 301, the pickup ran off the left side of I-95 and crashed into a tree, Bolt said.
The pickup driver died, according to Bolt.
The Clarendon County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the pickup driver.
Bolt said the driver was the only person in the pickup, and no other injuries were reported.
There was no word if the driver was wearing a seat belt.
Information about why the pickup veered off I-95 was not available, but the wreck continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
Through Aug. 31, at least 577 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least six people have died in Clarendon County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were nine deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
