SC man killed when vehicle runs off road and crashes down ravine, coroner says
A South Carolina man was killed Friday night when the vehicle he was driving crashed down a ravine, according to the Pickens County Coroner’s Office.
David Ricky Morris, a 71-year-old Six Mile resident, is the driver who died in what the coroner’s office call an accident.
The single-vehicle collision happened at about 8:20 p.m. the 1000 block of Jones Mills Road, the coroner’s office said in a news release.
Morris was driving a recreational vehicle when it ran off the road and went down a ravine, according to the release. Morris, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected into an embankment and died at the scene, the coroner’s office said.
No other injuries were reported.
Information about what caused the vehicle to veer off the road was not available, but the wreck continues to be investigated by the coroner’s office as well as the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office.
Through Sept. 7, at least 607 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least 13 people have died in Pickens County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 17 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
