South Carolina man killed when car exiting I-20 crashes, coroner says
A South Carolina man was killed over the weekend when the car he was driving crashed while exiting from Interstate 20, according to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.
Albert Stroman Jr., a 45-year-old Salley resident, is the driver who died in what Coroner Darryl Ables called an accident.
The single-vehicle crash happened at about 9 p.m. Saturday, the coroner’s office said in a news release.
Stroman was driving a 2012 Toyota Camry west on I-20, according to the release. As the car was leaving I-20, on Exit 6 toward the junction with I-520 in the North Augusta area, the Toyota crashed into a guard rail, the coroner’s office said.
Stroman was partially ejected from the car and died at the scene from the injuries he suffered in the wreck, according to the release.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word if Stroman was wearing a seat belt.
Information about what caused the car to crash into the guard rail was not available, but the wreck is being investigated by the coroner’s office and the North Augusta Department of Public Safety. Toxicology tests are pending, the coroner’s office said.
Through Sunday, 637 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least 11 people have died in Aiken County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 28 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
