Two trucks crash into pond, killing SC man and injuring others, officials say
One person was killed over the weekend and two others were hospitalized after two pickup trucks collided and crashed into a pond, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Jacob Langley, a 21-year-old Aiken resident, is the man who died in Saturday’s crash, Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said.
The two-vehicle collision happened at about 1:10 p.m., said Cpl. David Jones of the Highway Patrol.
Langley was driving a 1991 GMC pickup east on S.C. 4/Wagener Road, according to Jones. At the intersection with Flowing Wells Road the GMC was turning left when it was hit by a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado that was attempting to pass, officials said.
Both pickups ran off the left side of the road and crashed into a pond, Jones said.
Langley died at the scene, according to Ables.
Both the driver and a passenger in the Chevy were hurt and taken to an area hospital, Jones said. Neither was seriously injured, according to Ables.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word if anyone involved in the wreck was wearing a seat belt.
The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office. An autopsy will be performed in Newberry this week, Ables said.
Through Sept. 28, at least 656 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least 14 people have died in Aiken County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 28 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
