South Carolina man killed when car flips over in crash, cops say
A man was killed Sunday in an early morning crash, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The single-vehicle collision happened at about 2:40 a.m. in Spartanburg County, said Master Trooper Hannah Davidson.
A 2009 Lexus sedan was driving south on S.C. 101, according to Davidson. Near the intersection with Old Woodruff Road the Lexus ran off the left side of S.C. 101 where it crashed into a ditch and flipped over, Davidson said.
The driver, who was the only person in the Lexus, died at the scene, according to Davidson.
The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office identified 42-year-old Duncan resident Le’moriell Williams as the driver who was killed, WHNS reported.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word if Williams was wearing a seat belt.
Information about what caused the Lexus to veer off the road was not available, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
An autopsy will be performed Monday, according to the coroner’s office.
Through Oct. 4, at least 687 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least 65 people have died in Spartanburg County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 60 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
