One killed, another hurt when truck swerves into oncoming traffic, SC cops say

One person was killed Tuesday night and another was hospitalized following a crash that involved a motorcycle and a pickup truck, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The collision happened at about 7:30 p.m. in Lee County, said Cpl. Nick Pye.

A 2023 Kawasaki motorcycle was driving north on S.C. 341, while a 2015 Chevrolet pickup was heading south, according to Pye. Near the intersection with Mack Stuckey Road the Chevy swerved left of the center line and collided with the motorcycle, Pye said.

The motorcycle rider died, according to Pye.

The Lee County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the motorcycle rider.

The pickup driver was injured and taken to an area hospital, Pye said. Further information on the Chevy driver’s condition was not available.

No other injuries were reported.

There was no word if the motorcycle rider was wearing a helmet, or if the pickup driver was wearing a seat belt.

Information about what caused the pickup to veer toward oncoming traffic was not available, but the wreck continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.

Through Sunday, 701 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least five people have died in Lee County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were four deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
