Two people killed when SUV runs off South Carolina road and crashes, cops say

Two people were killed Saturday when an SUV ran off an Upstate road and crashed, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The single-vehicle collision happened at about 3 a.m. in Spartanburg County, said Master Trooper Brandon Bolt.

A 2000 Ford SUV was driving east on Old Furnace Road in the Boiling Springs area, according to Bolt. Near the intersection with Southland Avenue the SUV swerved off the right side of the road and hit a ditch, then flipped over before crashing into a tree, Bolt said.

There were two people in the SUV, and both the driver and passenger died, according to Bolt.

The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the victims.

No other injuries were reported.

There was no word if anyone involved in the wreck was wearing a seatbelt.

Information about what caused the SUV to veer off the road was not available, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.

Through Oct. 12, at least 701 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least 67 people have died in Spartanburg County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 60 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
