Housekeeper for Murdaugh to share inside stories on SC family in new memoir. What we know
A new book with a fresh perspective from inside the Murdaugh family is promising to share what life was really like behind the headlines.
Blanca Turrubiate-Simpson – housekeeper, personal assistant and close friend to Maggie Murdaugh – is releasing her memoir soon, “Within the House of Murdaugh: Amid a Unique Friendship Blanca and Maggie,” co-written with Mary Frances “Fran” Weaver.
While an in-store release date has not yet been announced, it is now available for presale, with shipping set to begin in late November, according to Cassidy Pierce, spokesperson for the project.
This memoir is expected to go beyond the courtroom drama to reveal the private lives of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh, revealing “a side of the Murdaugh story the public has never seen,” all told through Turrubiate-Simpson’s perspective and experience in their home.
What we know about the book
The Murdaugh saga has inspired a flood of documentaries, podcasts and TV series – but “Within the House of Murdaugh” offers something different: an insider’s view from a woman who stepped into their home each day.
Turrubiate-Simpson worked for the Murdaugh family for more than a decade and her memoir is anticipated to “restore humanity to a story consumed by tragedy and media frenzy” by offering a look into the family’s private world and “sharing the reality of life.”
This book promises that it “does not sensationalize, exploit, or speculate.”
Instead, it seeks to tell Maggie’s story through Blanca’s eyes and their friendship, shedding light on the woman behind the headlines: “a mother devoted to her sons, a wife under pressure and a woman trying to hold her world together.”
The memoir is expected to revisit the days surrounding the 2021 murders of Maggie and Paul at the family’s Moselle home — a case that shook South Carolinians, drew international attention and led to Alex Murdaugh’s 2023 conviction.
Turrubiate-Simpson testified during Murdaugh’s trial, describing her experience at the house and Maggie’s earlier concerns.
A spotlight for their furry friend
Following the tragedy, Turrubiate-Simpson and her family adopted Bubba, the Murdaughs’ dog, who later played a key role in Alex Murdaugh’s conviction.
Her bond with Bubba is slated to be the subject of another upcoming project: a children’s book titled “My Bubba, My Hero,” which was announced on Oct. 24 on Facebook. The story is anticipated to explore how animals grieve and find happiness after loss.
What to know about the authors
Turrubiate-Simpson was born in Brownsville, Texas, in 1967, and left home at 17 years old to join the U.S. Navy. After military service, she worked in corrections and federal law enforcement before meeting Alex Murdaugh while helping a friend with a legal matter at the law firm of Peters, Murdaugh, Parker, Eltzroth, and Detrick in Hampton County.
Her work for the Murdaugh family began soon after, eventually becoming a trusted member of their household. Turrubiate-Simpson suffered a stroke in 2015 and took a leave of absence, but returned shortly after Paul’s boat accident in 2019 that killed 19-year-old Mallory Beach.
Co-author Mary Frances “Fran” Weaver grew up in Morganton, North Carolina, and now resides in Chapin, South Carolina. A retired educator and counselor, Weaver now focuses on consulting work and has an interest in high-profile criminal cases.
