Man was killed at a Waffle House, SC official says. Now two people are in prison

A South Carolina man recently became the second person convicted of murder following a shooting at a Waffle House restaurant, according to 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

On Nov. 20, Charles Maurice Harrison Breland was found guilty of murder, the solicitor’s office said in a news release. The 21-year-old Walterboro resident was sentenced to 42 years in a South Carolina Department of Corrections prison, according to the release.

The charge stems from the Feb. 18, 2023, shooting where Lamontre Green was killed at the Waffle House on Bells Highway in Walterboro, the solicitor’s office said. That’s in Colleton County, just off Exit 57 on I-95.

In April, 22-year-old Walterboro resident Jordin Quoleaha Glover also was found guilty of murder, according to the release. She was sentenced to 30 years in prison, the solicitor’s office said.

On the day of the shooting, Breland and Green entered the Waffle House and approached a table where Breland’s girlfriend, Glover, and others were seated, according to the release. After a short disagreement, Green turned to walk away and was shot at least six times, the solicitor’s office said.

Officers arrived to find Green dying on the floor of the restaurant, according to the release.

No other injuries were reported.

Information about the argument was not available, and there was no word about a specific motive for the gunfire.

“This brazen act of violence committed in front of a dozen witnesses shows the complete disregard for life or much of anything,” Assistant Solicitor Tameaka Legette said in the release. “Justice has been served in these convictions and Colleton County is a safer place with these two behind bars.”

Legette prosecuted both Breland and Glover for the solicitor’s office. She was assisted in both cases by solicitor’s office Investigator Denise Pinckney and Cpl. Charles Shipp of the Walterboro Police Department.

Bishopville attorney Charlie Johnson Jr. represented Breland, while Walterboro’s Matthew Walker was listed as Glover’s lawyer, Colleton County court records show. Glover, who’s currently incarcerated at Graham Correctional institution in Columbia, is appealing her conviction, according to court records.
