SUV runs off SC road and one person dies in early morning crash, cops say
One person was killed Thursday morning when an SUV ran off a Midlands road and crashed, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The single-vehicle collision happened at about 6:20 a.m. in Orangeburg County, said Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover.
A 2013 Honda CRV was driving north on Eutaw Road, according to Glover. Near the intersection with Gaillard Street the Honda ran off the left side of the Eutaw Road and crashed into a tree, Glover said.
The driver, identified as Glen Hill, 56, of Lowcountry Highway in Smoaks, SC, died on scene from blunt force injuries sustained in the collision, according to the Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office.
Glover said Hill was the only person in the Honda, and no other injuries were reported.
There was no word if the driver was wearing a seatbelt.
Information about why the Honda veered off the road was not available, and Glover did not say if the wreck continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
Through Sunday, 822 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least 29 people have died in Orangeburg County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 46 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
