Lexington man killed in crash that left two other people injured, SC cops say
One person was killed and two others were injured Friday in a crash on a Lexington County road, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Brian Westley Deloach, a 56-year-old Lexington resident, died in what Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher called an accident.
The two-vehicle collision happened at about 3:20 p.m., said Cpl. Nick Pye of the Highway Patrol.
Deloach was driving a 2003 Toyota sedan west on Old Orangeburg Road, according to Pye. That’s in the Red Bank area of Lexington County.
Near the intersection with Chestnut Street the Toyota swerved left of the center line and collided with a 2024 Subaru SUV that was driving east on Old Orangeburg Road, Pye said.
Deloach, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to Fisher.
The driver and a passenger in the Subaru were hurt and also were taken to an area hospital, Pye said. The Subaru driver suffered minor injuries, according to Fisher. Further information on the passenger’s condition was not available.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word if either of the people in the Subaru were wearing seatbelts.
Information about what caused the Toyota to veer into oncoming traffic was not available, but the wreck continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office.
This was the first of two deadly crashes in Lexington County on Friday. At about 5:20 p.m., a 65-year-old Gilbert man died in a two-vehicle collision on Calks Ferry Road, the coroner’s office said.
Through Feb. 8, at least 55 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2026, according to the state Department of Public Safety. A minimum of 914 people were killed in collisions in South Carolina in 2025, DPS data shows.
At least six people have died in Lexington County crashes this year, and 40 people died in wrecks there in 2025, according to DPS data.
