SC has 2 of best places for a golf getaway in US for 2026, USA TODAY says. Here’s where
Two South Carolina communities are listed in the USA Today 10 best for a golfing getaway — Hilton Head, No. 8 and Myrtle Beach, 9.
The top area is the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, which USA Today describes as having “rugged forests, rolling terrain, and views of both Lake Superior and Lake Michigan.”
That makes it a unique golfing location with popular courses including Greywalls at Marquette Golf Club and Sweetgrass Golf Club.
They also have an “annual day of ice golf when golfers play with fluorescent golf balls on snow-covered lakes,” USA Today said.
Hilton Head has “more than 26 golf courses for players of all skill levels, from the iconic Harbour Town Golf Links to the Atlantic Dunes, (formerly the Ocean Course, both at Sea Pines), and challenging layouts at Palmetto Dunes.”
Also attractive as a getaway are Hilton Head’s restaurants and beaches.
Travel + Leisure also recently ranked Hilton Head among the 15 best beach towns to live in year round in the United States. Forbes last year ranked it as one of the best places to retire in the U.S.
About Myrtle Beach, USA Today says “there seems to be a golf course around every corner.”
There are 80 to 90 courses depending on who you’re talking to, many of them considered championship courses designed by well-known golf architects such as Arnold Palmer, Pete Dye and Robert Trent Jones.
Myrtle Beach, in fact, calls itself the golf capital of the world.
“A majority are public, making a trip to Myrtle Beach an affordable option,” USA Today said.
The other courses on the list are:
2. St. George and the Greater Zion, Utah
3. Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri
4. Coastal Mississippi
5. Petoskey area, Michigan
6. Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Alabama
7. French Lick, Indiana
10. Pinehurst, Southern Pines, and Aberdeen, N.C.
