Teen killed in shooting that left another person hospitalized, SC officials say

A teenager was killed Monday night in a shooting that left another person hospitalized, according to South Carolina officials.

Kahlil Simmons, a 17-year-old Aiken resident, is the victim who died, Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said.

At about 6:30 p.m., deputies responded to a report of two people getting shot in the 100 block of Goodman Road, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office. That’s in Jackson, not far from Atomic Road and the Savannah River Nuclear Site.

Simmons was one of two male victims, the sheriff’s office said.

While Simmons died at the scene at 7:13 p.m., the other shooting victim was taken to an area hospital, according to officials. Further information on the surviving victim’s condition was not available.

No other injuries were reported.

Information about the shooter, or shooters, and if any more people were involved, was not available. There was no word about a motive for the gunfire.

Both bloodhounds and a drone team from the sheriff’s office searched the area, the sheriff’s office said.

No arrests have been reported in the shooting that continues to be investigated by the sheriff’s office and coroner’s office.

An autopsy will be performed in Newberry, according to the coroner’s office.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 803-642-1761.
