Four people, including infant, in home that was blasted in shooting, SC cops say
A month after a house was riddled with bullets in a drive-by shooting a South Carolina man was arrested on multiple charges, according to the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office.
On Wednesday, 24-year-old Bowman resident Jaylen Staley was charged with four counts of attempted murder as well as single counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime and discharging a weapon into a dwelling, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
The charges stem from an April 25 shooting, according to the release.
At about 4:45 p.m. on April 25, a vehicle came to a stop in front of a Norway Road home which was hit by bullets fired from the vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.
There were four people inside the home, including a 6-month-old infant, according to the release.
No injuries were reported.
There was no word on a motive for the shooting, and if anyone else was involved or faces criminal charges.
Staley was taken into custody Wednesday morning at an Orangeburg residence by members of the sheriff’s office, Orangeburg Department of Public Safety, the U.S. Marshals Service and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, according to the release.
Information about how deputies connected Staley to the drive-by shooting was not available.
Staley is being held in the county jail, and no bond has been set on the charges, Orangeburg County court records show. Following a bond hearing, Staley is scheduled to return to court on July 7, according to judicial records.
“This individual didn’t have an ounce of concern for anyone in or even near this home,” Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said in the release.
