Two men were shot and one has died, Richland County sheriff says

One man was killed and another was hospitalized following a recent shooting, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

At about 3 p.m. Monday, deputies responded to a report of a shooting in the 100 block of John Ammons Road, the sheriff’s department said in a news release. That’s at the intersection with Garners Ferry Road in the Eastover area of Richland County.

Deputies found two men who had been shot, according to the release.

One of the men died at the scene while EMS took the other to an area hospital, the sheriff’s department said. Further information on the surviving victim’s condition was not available.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the victim who died.

No other injuries were reported.

Investigators learned that “the suspect and victim” were involved in a dispute when the suspect got a gun and shot the victim once, the sheriff’s department said. There was no word about the nature of the dispute.

After being shot, the victim called 911, according to the release.

Before deputies arrived, the victim heard another gunshot and the responding deputies found the man they identified as the suspect lying on the floor with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, the sheriff’s department said.

No arrests have been reported by the sheriff’s department, which is continuing to investigate the shooting. The sheriff’s department said that it does not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community.
