Charleston is known for its historic homes, most often in Georgian, Federal, and Charleston Single styles, making a Queen Anne on the market now somewhat unusual.
And the house built around 1878 is fully restored.
It’s located at 67 Warren Street, not too far from King Street and the College of Charleston. The asking price for the six bedroom, 5 full bath home with 5,800 square feet is $4.25 million.
It was built for William Duff Clarke, a photographer who was born in Scotland in 1862 emigrating to New York in 1886 and then to Charleston in 1891, according to research from Natalie Towles Whiteman.
She said he took many Charleston scenery pictures in the early 1900s before moving to England in 1926.
The house is of the late-Victorian Queen Anne style with a turret, decorative woodwork, bay windows, and expansive piazzas.
It morphed through the decades from a single-family residence to a rooming house and apartments and now has been restored as a private home.
The original hardwood floors with intricate inlay designs survive.
The formal living room has a gas fireplace and connects to a den. Pocket doors lead to the dining room and an adjacent office and music room.
The kitchen features a large center island, custom banquette seating, and a gas fireplace. There is also a porch with a retractable awning and seating areas overlooking the landscaped yard.
The primary suite is located upstairs and has a bathroom with two vanities, a soaking tub and walk-in shower. There is also a private porch featuring a sofa swing.
Other bedrooms are also on the second floor. The third floor can be used as a fitness studio, guest suite, or additional living space.
There are also two fully equipped apartments, each with one bedroom and a bath, living room, full kitchen, and marble-appointed baths.
They can be used for guests or renters.
The gardens were professionally designed and include mature plantings and a fruit garden.
Parking is off-street on the one-way Warren Street.
