Hard Rock Cafe considers demolishing pyramid, relocating in Myrtle Beach

Representatives for Hard Rock Cafe at Broadway at the Beach are in negotiations to relocate from the landmark pyramid at Celebrity Square, restaurant officials said.

Keith Stamp, general manager at Hard Rock, said there have been conversations about relocating the attraction to another spot at Broadway, but declined to say where exactly the business would move.

“We expect to hear something definite by the end of the week,” Stamp said. “No paperwork has been signed. Nothing is finalized. ... We’re in negotiations.”

Stamp said were the restaurant to leave its current location, officials would require that the landmark 70-foot-tall pyramid be demolished.

Lei Gainer, a spokeswoman for Burroughs & Chapin Co. Inc., which owns Broadway at the Beach, does not comment on contractual matters with its tenants.

Stamp said the restaurant originally signed a 20-year lease, which would have expired in August, but last year signed a five-year extension.

He said until everything is finalized, it’s possible the attraction would stay put.

“We’re definitely not closing,” he said. “This is way too good a market for us to even think about doing that.”
