Two drivers were killed in a matter of hours, both after running off the road and striking trees.

The incidents happened about 20 miles from one another. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a fatal collision occurred at 8 p.m. Wednesday night on Flat Rock Road near Three Cs Road in Lancaster County. That spot is southwest of Kershaw in the southern part of the county.

Lance Cpl. Nick Pye with South Carolina Highway Patrol said a 1998 BMW sedan was the only vehicle involved in the wreck. The driver was traveling south on Flat Rock when the vehicle ran off the road to the left and struck a tree. The driver sustained fatal injuries. The driver wasn’t identified.

In Chester County

A similar report details a fatal wreck early Thursday morning in Chester County. A 2015 Nissan sedan was the only vehicle involved in a 12:15 a.m. wreck on Washington Street, near Sunset Avenue. That location is just west of Great Falls High School.

The driver was traveling west on Washington. Pye said the driver in that wreck also drove off the road to the left and struck a tree.

Both incidents remain under investigation. Identification of the deceased will come from the respective county coroner offices.
