Sirens sound: Tornado warning issued in SC for York County near Lake Wylie and NC line
A tornado warning was issued Friday evening for the northern part of York County, according to the National Weather Service.
The warning was for much of northern York County close to the North Carolina state line. It included Lake Wylie, Clover, and areas near Tega Cay and Fort Mill.
The warning was issued around 6 p.m. during rush hour. Sirens from York County Emergency Management also sounded.
A tornado warning means a tornado has been sighted or indicated by weather radar, according to officials.
Chuck Haynes, York County Emergency Management director, said radar showed a potential for a tornado south of the North Carolina state line heading east from the Clover area toward Lake Wylie. There were no reports of a tornado touching down or any damage, Haynes said.
The weather service said hail and high winds in storms are possible for much of York County through 98 p.m. as a tornado watch continues.
