Students across York County will stay home on Tuesday, but they’ll still have school.

All four York County school districts announced Monday they’ll have an e-learning day due to a weather forecast for strong storms and wind Tuesday. The Lancaster County School District and Chester County School District did, too.

Students in Rock Hill and York were off Monday for a teacher workday. The initial plan was for students to return Tuesday. Now they will return virtually.

Fort Mill and Clover students went to school Monday. All four districts cite weather, particularly wind, as the reason for Tuesday’s online learning day.

An email to parents in the Fort Mill district reference a wind advisory for sustained winds Tuesday at 20-30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

“Under state law, buses cannot travel if winds are sustained at or above 30 MPH or gust at or above 40 MPH,” the message stated.

Online learning also keeps most staff members at home across the districts. Sporting event and afterschool activities for Tuesday are canceled, as are non-district events that utilize school facilities.

The National Weather Service shows the Rock Hill region, entire state of South Carolina and much of the Southeast under a wind advisory. The wind advisory runs 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday across the region.

There’s also a flood watch from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday for the region. The weather service also forecasts up to three inches of rain in York County through Tuesday night with similar amounts possible in Lancaster and Chester counties.
