Schools closed around Rock Hill region as severe weather threat looms Monday

All school districts in the Rock Hill region are closed Monday because of the threat of bad weather in South Carolina.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect through 11 a.m. that includes high winds over 30 miles per hour with gusts even stronger, according to the National Weather Service. As much as half an inch of rain could fall during the day with more expected through the evening, according to the National Weather Service.

All four school districts in York County: Rock Hill, Fort Mill, Clover, and York closed campuses Monday. Students in those districts will make up Monday’s classes with an online learning day Friday, which had been scheduled as a teacher workday.

The Lancaster County School District and Chester County schools also closed on Monday. They haven’t announced makeup plans.

Many other districts in the Charlotte region closed Monday because of weather, including Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
