More than 2,000 out of power in York Chester, Lancaster as wind, rain pound region

More than 2,000 customers were without power in York, Chester and Lancaster counties Thursday as rain and wind lashed the region.

Most of the outages were reported in northern and western York County.

As of 2:30 p.m., Duke Energy reported almost 1,000 customers without power near Lake Wylie and another 500-plus near Clover, according to the utility’s Web site outage map.

Duke Energy also reported other outages near Rock Hill, York and in Lancaster County.

York Electric Cooperative reported on its website outage map about 450 customers were affected in the three counties, with about 350 of those in York County.

Rock Hill utilities reported six outages, said Katie Quinn, spokesperson for the City of Rock Hill.

Crews worked quickly through the afternoon to restore power. As of 4 p.m. Chester and Lancaster counties combined for just 85 Duke outages. York County still had almost 900, the vast majority of them in the Clover and Lake Wylie areas.

York Electric was down to 125 York County outages, most of them in Clover and Lake Wylie but with some near Rock Hill and elsewhere. Lancaster and Chester counties didn’t have outages from the cooperative.

The City of Rock Hill listed just one outage.

By 6 p.m., the three counties had only about 700 total outages.
