Tornadoes, hail, flooding possible in storm forecast for York, Chester, Lancaster

Weather officials are warning Rock Hill area residents about the possibility of tornadoes, hail and high winds late Tuesday in York, Chester, and Lancaster counties.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather statement that cautioned about the potential for severe weather and localized flooding.

The statement said, “showers and scattered thunderstorms are expected to return across the area this afternoon and evening. Some of the storms will become severe with damaging winds, large hail, and even an isolated tornado possible. Heavy rainfall also is expected with some of the storms leading to the potential for isolated flooding.”

The worst risk time is 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday, according to a bulletin from the weather service and emergency management officials in Lancaster County.

The expected rain and possibility for severe weather comes after a strong thunderstorm lashed the area late Monday night, said Darren Player, Lancaster County Emergency Management Director.

Police and emergency officials in York County reminded residents not to attempt to drive through flooded roads.

Thousands of area residents temporarily lost utility power in storms last week and in April.
