It’s about to officially be spring. Experts say Rock Hill’s weather will match the season
The last few days of winter will feel more like spring around the Rock Hill area, forecasters say.
Spring officially arrives at 11:33 a.m. Sunday, although meteorologists consider March 1 to be the start of the season.
Either way, spring-like conditions are on tap for the region.
Temperatures are expected to be mild, and there will even be a few hours of spring showers late Friday and early Saturday.
Nearly one inch of rain was reported Wednesday and early Thursday at Rock Hill’s airport, and the rain and clouds kept temperature, 65 degrees, several degrees below the average high at this time of year.
Meteorologists say a weak area of high pressure will keep things dry and mild into Friday afternoon, with highs in the low 70s.
The next weather-maker is a weak cold front that will cross the region Friday night.
National Weather Service meteorologist Scott Krentz says showers and a few thunderstorms could reach the area by Friday afternoon, although the most likely time frame for rainfall will come in the overnight hours.
Rapid clearing is predicted for Saturday morning, with very nice weather forecast into next week.
“Temperatures will remain warm, with near- or above-normal readings expected each day,” Krentz says.
Highs in the Rock Hill area are predicted to be in the low 70s Saturday, the upper 60s Sunday as slightly cooler air moves in, and then back into the low 70s for Monday and Tuesday.
The next rain-maker is predicted to arrive by next Wednesday. Krentz says a frontal system might stall in the area, bringing several days of unsettled weather.
