Guard rail might have prevented accident
I would like to comment on the car accident of Jan. 18 on Interstate 77. I think a simple solution to the problem would be for the DOT to put up a guard rail between the sign post and the highway. It seems like a car would bounce off of a guard rail. I can't imagine sitting for 6 hours on the road. There would be two words for them, I'm sure, "horrendous," and "frustrating." It seems like they would have had to shut off their engines or all their gas would be burned up. I left for work at 4:30 and got to the jam by Peach Stand on U.S. 21. I went home and called in to work, then not knowing what had happened, I tried the highway. I finally made it back home and called again. It was my first night of work to be missed. Think of all those truckers on a schedule who were delayed (and everyone else). I hope a guard rail will prevent this from happening again! Another road between Charlotte and Rock Hill would be very helpful also.

PAWSibilities helps abandoned animals
On behalf of PAWSibilities, The Humane Society of York County's new thrift shop, we wish to thank The Herald and its affiliates for supporting our efforts to help HSYC survive. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to many individuals, organizations, the wonderful people who make donations, our loyal "shoppers" and volunteers, too many to list, for making it possible for us to open the shop doors and help the abandoned animals in our area. Without them we could not process donations, and staff the shop every Friday and Saturday.
This has been a labor of love for all of us, and we are happy to report that PAWSibilities has become a success story because of all of you. If you would like to volunteer, contact Elaine Siegel at 803-517-2091. A million thanks.

Smokers could catch a cold
Now that Rock Hill has signed the death warrants on smokers by sending them out in the cold to catch whatever, why can't everyone just stop and think about what is going on? Why can't you have both a place to smoke and a place not to smoke? What if smokers told you, the non-smokers, to sit outside in the cold? Where are the rights for all? No such thing in the city of Rock Hill.

Wishes for a new year
These are my wishes for the new year: prayer back in school; 10 Commandments put in every place they need to be; no one thought about taking "In God We Trust" off dollars or any money.
I wish that sharing and helping those in need was just a way of life. Phone calls, clothes, food, any way to let others know you care. I wish people would demand we get back the freedoms taken away. What's next? Thank you for the freedom to write in this paper.
