Booker supported coalition's efforts

On behalf of the All On Board Coalition, we join the people of York in stating our appreciation of Dr. Russell Booker, superintendent of York School District One, who has resigned to accept a position in Spartanburg at the end of the current school term.

All On Board, the countywide coalition concerned with substance abuse among our young people, would like to thank Dr. Booker for his leadership and support of the coalition's many activities in recent years.

His district's participation in the All On Board Coalition was a significant factor in the award of the Drug Free Communities grant, which will have a huge impact on reducing youth substance abuse in York County for many years to come.

Dr. Booker has been one of many concerned, community participants of All On Board. His work on the 2008 Prom/Graduation Campaign resulted in one of the safest prom seasons in York County to date.

We are richer for our associations with Dr. Booker, and our youth are healthier for his tireless work in our community.

Policy seems contradictory

I read with interest the article about Comporium Communications not offering the free broadcast of the weekend inaugural concert through HBO. The article cited Comporium Vice President Glenn McFadden as stating: "Comporium does not participate in those promotions because the Rock Hill-based company doesn't want customers who don't pay for the service to watch something others are paying for." I would like to ask Mr. McFadden if it is also Comporium policy to charge customers who have this service for something that is being offered for free. So maybe Comporium "kind of fell into our policy" in this case also.
