Letters to the editor for Aug. 17

Backyard chickens are fowl play

I was astonished to learn recently that a neighbor has poultry in her yard and that roosters and hens are allowed within the city limits of Rock Hill.

Having chickens within the city limits seems to contradict the very image the city portrays to tourists, visitors and citizens.

What if several roosters escaped and strutted up and down Oakland Avenue, then over to Knowledge Park when it is completed, or around the lovely fountain near the First Presbyterian Church?

Growing veggies and fruits in one’s own garden is a marvelous way to go “organic,” but having cackling hens and crowing roosters is quite another. If you're hungry for organic eggs, dear neighbor, why not go to Earth Fare?

And, no, I would not be bothered at all if old Reynard snatched all of the Chanticleers. No. I wouldn't be bothered at all. Where are you, Reynard?
