Rock Hill’s traffic lights are all screwed up

Statement of fact: Rock Hill has the most mistimed, screwed up, out-of-sync traffic signals of any city in the country.

Case in point (only the most recent of thousands): Today while driving from Tech Park out to the Rock Hill Galleria, I was stopped by every traffic signal on Dave Lyle Boulevard, not five or six, but every one.

As always, the worst ones are the three in front of Manchester Village. At these three, I had to sit through each of the out-of-sync red lights twice because the signal just 50 yards down the road was still red, not allowing the traffic to move on.

Manchester is just the worst example, but every traffic signal in Rock Hill is mistimed or out of sync.

Every year around holiday time, there is an article in The Herald in which the DOT states that they are working on improving traffic patterns at Manchester, and “next year it will be much better.” This article has appeared every year since Manchester was built, and it has yet to happen.

When I left the Galleria, going in the opposite direction, I zipped through pretty quickly, considering I was on Dave Lyle Boulevard, a limited-access road (yeah, right). But traffic going toward the Galleria was backed up from the Galleria all the way back past First Baptist Church.

And it’s not even the holiday season yet.

Ho, Ho, Ho!
