Letters to the editor for Feb. 15

Only one real choice for GOP

I love living in South Carolina, a very conservative and God-fearing state. We believe in the Constitution and personal freedom.

I am astonished and disappointed that Donald Trump is leading in the polls. If Saturday night’s debate did not prove to you that he is an egotistical spoiled baby, then there is no hope for you.

As far as I am concerned we have four choices in this election: The status quo, which is not working too well at the moment; socialism from the Democratic Party; a nationalist, populist, no-substance, whining baby candidate like Donald Trump; or a God-fearing, constitutionalist in Ted Cruz.

The Senate hates Cruz because he went to Washington and fought for exactly what he promised Texans he would do. That is unheard of in modern-day politics, doing what you promise the voters you will do.

After the passing of Justice Antonin Scalia Saturday, this election is even more important. So many of our rights were upheld by 5-4 decisions. If another left-wing justice gets on the bench, we will lose some of our rights, including our Second Amendment rights and religious liberties. I am afraid, no matter what they are saying now, that the Senate will rubber-stamp an Obama appointee. Once the political attacks start, the spineless Republican senators will probably cave.

Wouldn’t you want a true constitutionalist to pick a Supreme Court Justice? All our freedoms depend on it. Before you vote, South Carolinians, look inside your hearts. Do you really want to vote for an angry man who attacks anyone who gets in his way? A socialist? Or a man who cherishes God and the Constitution?

Voters should choose warrior

I like Donald Trump! He gives voice to our righteous anger and speaks the truth. Americans are sick of lies, political correctness and apologies. However, although he mimics our thoughts out loud, he has no proven record to back up his promises.

Ted Cruz does! He is a proven warrior who is no Johnny-come-lately. He has been fighting for conservative values, the same ones Donald Trump espouses. So, why take the risk that the Donald will keep his promises. Haven’t we been betrayed enough even by our own legislators?

Cruz has fought to keep God in our culture, for limited government, a strong military, for tax reform, for immigration reform that involves building a wall and not rewarding illegal immigrants with amnesty, for our Second Amendment rights, for the sanctity of marriage and our most precious gift from God, the right to be born.

Ted Cruz does not get along with the Washington establishment. The media hate Ted Cruz because he is a true conservative who has rocked their world. He is their worst nightmare and our best hope.

We need a president who believes in America and who doesn’t apologize for what it stands for. I want a president who values our military and treats them with the respect and honor they deserve.

We are at war with those who have started the destruction of America, and the transformation will be complete after this election. It is truly our last chance to take America back.
