Support Fanning for S.C. Senate

Do you want the needs of local people given higher priority than the desires of special interests? Then Mike Fanning is the candidate to support in the District 17 Democratic Primary for Senate on June 14. As director of the Olde English Consortium he has long been deeply involved in working for needed reforms in our area.

He worked tirelessly to create a fairer tax code for South Carolina. One of the inequities I remember him pointing out was that someone buying a private jet plane paid no more state taxes than a person buying a small-sized automobile. Mike has also been a leader in fostering cooperation and collaboration among the upstate school districts.

As he puts it, “After a lifetime of watching career politicians ignore real, vitally needed reforms, I made the decision to run. If Columbia is too busy listening to special interests to listen to the people, then the people must go to Columbia. That’s why I’m running.”

Mike is a lifelong South Carolinian and an active-service U.S. Army veteran. He is a former high school teacher with degrees from Wofford College, Benedict College and the University of South Carolina. He has the intelligence, vision and determination to help us achieve the more fair and equitable South Carolina we so greatly want and need.

If you live south of Main Street in Rock Hill, or in Fairfield or Chester County, get out and vote for Mike Fanning for S.C. Senate.

Sen. Graham should be recalled

I just saw that U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., will not be supporting or voting the party’s presidential nominee, Donald Trump. This should be grounds for starting a recall of him from office. He is an S.C. senator and should promote the wishes of his constituents who voted overwhelmingly for Trump.

I urge all Republicans to contact the state GOP leadership and demand they have a suitable replacement to run in the next election against Graham. He has shown repeatedly to be a disgrace to our state.
