Money influenced vote on freeze

What an amazing turnaround by the York County Council on the proposed housing freeze. It lends credence to the adage, money talks.

Led by Britt Blackwell and Bump Roddey, the council has reversed its earlier vote predicated on the notion that some magical measures the council has been working on would meet the need to control growth and make housing restrictions unnecessary. Nuts!

Developers and big money weighed in, and as Blackwell has said, “a freeze creates a negative business climate.” That’s business, not how residents are going to cope.

What about schools? It’s all about business, developers and money, money, money.

Time for a change in Senate District 15

There comes a time in many politicians’ lives when they stay too long. The voters take a long look at their records and wonder what they have accomplished.

In the District 15 state Senate race “our senator,” Wes Hayes, has outstayed his welcome. As you remember, our former Congressman John Spratt did the same. Mr. Spratt and Mr. Hayes are honorable men but their policies have failed the citizens of South Carolina.

The Winthrop debate showed the audience that Wes Climer, the conservative reformer, had Mr. Hayes agreeing with him during the majority of the debate. The most telling moment was the comment by Mr. Hayes that he agreed on term limits but not for him. The audience thought Mr. Hayes was going to endorse Wes Climer.

The Senate is made up of good old boys who have spent years in the Senate, and nothing gets done. Our roads are a disgrace, ethics reform is a joke, our schools are failing, and Mr. Hayes is for the status quo. Mr. Hayes’ idea of fixing roads is borrowing $2 billion dollars and putting our state deeper in debt. Mr. Hayes has 30-plus years in office, and our roads are still a mess.

Wes Climer is very intelligent, a hard working family man and a great leader in the York County Republican Party. He has a positive plan to fix our roads, get ethics reform done, and he will vote to get term limits. We need a reformer who is willing to shake up the establishment.

Mr. Hayes is a good person, and we should thank him for his service. It time for a change, and we after 31 years it’s time for a new beginning. Please vote for Wes Climere, who has ability and fire to shake the status quo!
