Frog-frocked kids flirted with giant frogs. Saturday, many more expected at Come-See-Me
A crowd mingled around a tent with a tempting savory treat. On the menu was a barbecue pizza made by 1976 Barbecue.
Around the corner at True’s Barbecue, the smoke from the grill silhouetted Jeff Kendrick while he turned tender grilled chicken.
And down the hill just a stone’s throw from Winthrop Lake, Mike Faulkenberry & The Crown Town Get Down band performed a crowd of thousands of spectators on Friday. Kids in frog-frocked dresses twirled to the music. Just as the sun set, the Plair Band took to the stage.
Saturday’s main event — Moonlight Jazz & Blues — was part of the Come-See-Me Festival, Rock Hill’s 10-day ode to Spring. The BBQ Cook-Off Anything but Butts Competition drew the crowds for tasty treats.
Across the wide, rolling hills at the Winthrop Lake, tailgaters set up lawn chairs and blankets and had picnics while Glen and Glenda the Frogs cruised around the crowds, followed by curious toddlers and adults alike.
The festivities continue Saturday with the BBQ Cook-Off and the Tailgate Party, Skydiving and Fireworks Extravaganza at Winthrop Lake, beginning at 3 p.m. Thousands of festival-goers are expected to return to the lake for another day of socializing, corn-hole throwing and grilling.
Baker Grissom will perform 3:30-4:30 p.m., followed by Matt Tucker from 4:45-6:45 p.m. and then Meghan Patrick from 7-9 p.m. Skydivers will drop in at 7 p.m., followed by a fireworks display at 9 p.m.
Tickets are $5 for adults ages 21 and older. Bring your IDs. Entry is free for those under 21. Parking is $5 per car at the Winthrop Coliseum. Visit comeseeme.org for more details.
