Enzo Martinez named in USL’s team of the week
Enzo Martinez was named in the United Soccer League’s team of the week on Tuesday.
The former Northwestern Trojan scored an 73rd-minute equalizer earned the Charlotte Independence a draw with the Wilmington Hammerheads, and the first point in the club’s months-old history. Martinez ran onto a long ball and drilled the ball between the keeper’s legs for his first goal of 2015, two games into the season.
Alex Martinez, Enzo’s younger brother and fellow former Northwestern standout, started his first game for the Independence last weekend in Wilmington, after missing the opener because of a carryover red card suspension from last season. Charlotte is back in action April 18 at Richmond.
