High school roundup: Rock Hill girls pick up road win at Gaffney


Rock Hill 49, Gaffney 44

Rock Hill pulled away in the final period and defeated Gaffney 49-44 in a non-region game at Gaffney Wednesday night.

Rock Hill led 27-22 at halftime, but Gaffney cut it to 36-35 entering the final quarter. Rock Hill outscored Gaffney 13-9 in the final eight minutes.

Rock Hill is 6-2 on the year.

Lancaster 60, Northwestern 39

Lancaster topped Northwestern 60-39 in a non-region game at Lancaster Wednesday night.

Lancaster is 6-2, while Northwestern is 4-3.

Fort Mill 39, York 26

Fort Mill defeated York 39-26 in a non-region game at Fort Mill Tuesday night.

Fort Mill is 5-3 on the year, while York fell to 2-6.

C.A. Johnson 43, Great Falls 29

C.A. Johnson defeated Great Falls 43-29 in a non-region game at Great Falls Tuesday night.

Great Falls is 1-5 on the year.

White Knoll 47, Chester 29

White Knoll defeated Chester 47-29 in a non-region game at White Knoll Wednesday night.

Chester fell to 0-9 on the year.


South Pointe 80, Northwestern 78

South Pointe struggled at the free throw line but still got a narrow 80-78 win over rival Northwestern in a non-region game at South Pointe Tuesday night.

The Stallions made just 12-of-32 attempts from the foul line, but the Trojans (3-3) couldn’t slow South Pointe duo Andarius Boulware and B.J. Davis, who combined for 49 points. Only Davis’ foul trouble slowed him down in his first basketball game of the season after missing the first few weeks because of football. He finished with 26 points.

Chris Leach led Northwestern with 17. Ashton Packer, Mason Gregg and Zay Martin each scored 11. The Trojans lost Martin, a standout and college prospect, to a knee injury just before halftime.

Northwestern led 51-41 early in the second half when South Pointe (6-1) made its run, a 16-1 burst that gave Melvin Watson’s team a six-point lead heading into the final quarter. Boulware and Davis both had run-out dunks during the Stallion surge.

It stayed close the rest of the way, but South Pointe was able to keep enough distance between itself and the visitors for the win. Davis made four free throws in the last minute to hold off the Trojans.

York 58, Fort Mill 46

York used a strong second half to defeat Fort Mill 58-46 in a non-region game at Fort Mill Tuesday night.

Fort Mill led 32-22 at intermission, but York took a 39-36 lead after three quarters and pulled away in the final period.

Malcolm Kennedy led York with 21 points. Jabari Moore added 16 and Cameron Jones tossed in 13.

Ryan Heriot led Fort Mill with 15 points.

York is 3-3 on the year, while Fort Mill is 3-4.

Great Falls 65, C.A. Johnson 39

Great Falls took a 36-24 lead at halftime and defeated C. A. Johnson 65-39 in a non-region game at Great Falls Tuesday night.

Donnell Adams led a trio of Great Falls players in double figures with 19 points. Tommy Belk added 16 and Kelton Talford chipped in 12.

Great Falls is 6-0 on the year.

Lancaster 77, Chester 71

Lancaster took a 39-35 lead at halftime and hung on to defeat Chester 77-71 in a non-region game at Lancaster Tuesday night.

Lancaster is 4-2, while Chester lost for the first time in six outings.

Lewisville 69, Chesterfield 56

Lewisville topped Chesterfield 69-56 in a non-region game Tuesday night at Lewisville.

Lewisville is 2-4 on the year.


Rock Hill 61, Boiling Springs 9
